Wir verlassen Canberra sehr früh am Morgen und machen uns auf den Weg nach Sydney für einen kurzen Flug über Brisbane nach Proserpine. Links und rechts der Straße erwarten uns Rauhreif, Nebel und ein traumhafter Sonnenaufgang.
We leave Canberra very early in the morning and go for Sydney to reach our short flight via Brisbane to Proserpine. Along the road we see rime, fog and a wonderful sun rise.

Am späten Nachmittag erreichen wir Airlie Beach und dürfen für die Nacht auch schon auf unser Boot, eine Beneteau Oceanis 323. Es heißt Lazyitis, was unsere Schiffsärztin als Faulheitsentzündung qualifiziert. Das Wetter begrüßt uns mit heftigen abendlichen Regenschauern.
At late afternoon we reach Airlie Beach and can use the boat for the overnight stay. It is a Beneteau Oceanis 323 with the name Lazyitis. This is qualified to be a laziness inflamation by our ship physician. The weather greets us with enormous rain showers in the evening.

Der nächste Morgen in der Marina startet grau in grau. Die Vorhersage für die nächsten Tage klingt auch nicht gut - zuviel Wind, zuwenig Sonne.
The next morning at the marina starts grey in grey. The prediction for the next days does not sound pretty either. Too much wind, too few sun.

Nach der Bootseinweisung mit probeweisem Segelsetzen (zweites Reff im Groß, wenig Tuch fürs Vorsegel ..) bringt Gottfried mit dem Dingi den Einweiser Terry wieder in den Hafen zurück. Während wir am Anker dümpeln, nimmt Vera ein Anti-Seekrankheits-Bad.
After the introduction to the boat, including setting sail (second reff in the main sail and few stuff for the headsail ...), Gottfried returns the instructor Terry to the harbour (per Dingi). While we anchor and wait, Vera goes for an anti-sea-sickness-swim.

In Airlie Beach ist Regattawoche und die Meute zieht nahe an uns vorbei. Kleine Boote durften aber heute wegen der starken Winde (Windstärke 6-7) nicht mit - und wie wir später erfahren haben, ist trotzdem einiges zu Bruch gegangen. Wir entscheiden uns deshalb für einen kurzen Schlag die Küste hoch und übernachten in der Windward Bay.
In Airlie Beach is regatta week and the folks pass by quite near us. Small boats were not allowed to participate, due to the strong winds (wind strength 6-7). As we learn after our trip, there have been some damages nevertheless. We decide for a short trip north along the coast and stay overnight in the Windward Bay.

Dank Wind und Regen ist die Nacht nicht wirklich ruhig, aber der Vormittag ist etwas freundlicher (nur immer noch viel Wind). Wir segeln hart am Wind vom Festland Richtung Hook Island.
Due to wind and rain the night is not really quiet, but the late morning is somewhat more friendly (but yet strong winds). We sail close hauled from the mainland to Hook Island.

Der Tag bleibt windig und grau, wir sehen aber einige Regattaboote und andere Segler.
The day stays windy and grey, but we see some regatta boats and other sailing ships.

Die Nacht werden wir im Nara Inlet verbringen. Bei der Einfahrt grüßt uns ein Regenbogen (es wird nicht der letzte bleiben).
We will stay overnight in the Nara Inlet. At arrvial we are geeted by a rainbow (it will not have been the last).

Der nächste Tag gehört leider dem Motor - gegen Wind und Welle gibt es keinen sinnvollen Kurs, wenn wir um die Whitsunday Insel rum wollen. Es bleibt grau, schauert und die Szenerie erinnert uns eher an Schottland. Im Morgen-Call bittet jemand Cumberland Base zu bestätigen, dass es in der Marina heiße Duschen gibt. Wo sind wir nochmal? Am Abend ankern wir in der Tongue Bay.
The next day is motor day - against wind and wave there is no reasonable course, if we want to go round Whitsunday Island. It stays grey, rain showers come down and the scenery reminds us to Scotland. In the morning call somebody asks Cumberland Base to confirm that there are hot showers at the marina. Where at all are we? At the evening we anchor in Tongue Bay.

Vera und Gottfried laufen von Tongue Bay über den Hügel nach Whitehaven Beach. Karin pflegt ihre Erkältung und den Morgen-Call am Funk. Auch der Traumbeach ist wolkenverhangen.
Vera and Gottfried walk from Tongue Bay over the little hill to Whitehaven Beach. Karin maintains her cold and the morning radio call. The dream beach is also cloud covered.

Danach starten wir, auch wieder unter Motor und unter Regen ... bah!
After that we start - again with motor and with rain ... bah!

Es bleibt beim Motor, da Wind, Welle und Lazy Jacks uns nicht zum Segelsetzen kommen lassen. Wir passieren zwei schmale Passagen und die Welle zeugt noch vom heftigen Wind der Vortage.
We stay with the motor, because wind, wave and lazy jacks don't allow to set sail. We pass two narrow passages and the waves still talk of the wind of the last days.

Für den Abend suchen wir uns ein halbwegs ruhiges Plätzchen in Cid Harbour (wieder eine Ankerbucht, kein echter Hafen).
At the evening we find a somewhat quieter place in Cid Harbour (another inlet, no real harbour).

Freitag - heute Abend müssen wir das Boot zurück nach Airlie Beach bringen. Und jetzt endlich haben wir das Wetter, was wir wollten! Grr. Wir segeln auf Halbwindkurs Richtung Hafen.
Friday - this evening we have to bring back the boat to Airlie Beach. And now finally we have the weather we wanted! Grr. With crossing wind we sail in direction harbour.

Auf dem Weg sehen wir Wale. In der Mitte des Fotos ist eine Fluke ... Später hören wir, dass eines der Regattaboote mit einem kollidiert ist. Aber es haben wohl beide überlebt.
On the way we see some whales - in the middle of the picture there is a tail ... Later we learn, that one of the regatta boats has collided with one (but both seem to have survived).

Bei den letzten Schritten vom Boot an Land verknaxt Gottfried sich dann noch den Fuß. Hier hat er den Fuß im Eski (Eiskühler) und hopfenhaltiges Schmerzmittel in der Hand ... Letzte Nacht auf dem Boot - morgen geht es weiter!
At the last steps from board to land Gottfried hurts his leg. Here he has the foot in the eski and a hops-containing anti-pain elixir in his hand ... Last night on board - tomorrow we have to go on!
